In terms of raspberry production, in 2022, Serbia achieved third place at the global level, right behind Russia and Mexico.
Chile, also a large producer of raspberries and other berry fruits, took the fourth position, according to the latest data for last year.
– Our biggest competitors for years, the Poles, had a setback last year and have smaller quantities at their disposal. The Russians are also an enigma, they do not export and are not commodity producers like the others, that is, they only produce for their own market – the leading expert on berries, Dr. Aleksandar Leposavić, from the Institute of Fruit Growing in Čačak, told Politika.
By the way, in Serbia, when it comes to fruit growing, the largest areas are under plums, followed by apples and cherries, and fruit growers also achieve the highest production in these species.
According to the collected data from 2021, the highest yields per hectare are achieved by apples, followed by plums, pears, apricots, cherries and peaches. As the Agroklub recently announced, these are indicative data, which change from year to year, with the fact that plum and apple are practically constantly dominating as fruit species, BiF reports.
