The construction industry in Serbia in the last decade experienced a real explosion in the volume of works, income and profit. This can be easily seen with the naked eye, first of all in Belgrade, but increasingly in other parts of the country.
Of the types of construction, building construction dominates, but civil engineering is far from absent, primarily in large state highway network construction projects, where consortia of domestic and foreign, state and private companies participate. An indicator of the growth of the construction industry is the increase in prices per square meter in new buildings in cities.
The corona virus pandemic did not so much rein in the started trend as the increase in material prices in 2022. Growth continued, but at a slower pace. An additional problem is the constant labor shortage, which is why domestic contractors are forced to import unqualified workers, most often from Turkey, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan.
