“Lasta” transport company reaches agreement with Belgrade authorities to avoid termination of public transport contract

The transport company “Lasta” announced that, following a meeting at the Ministry of Economy, an agreement was reached with the relevant authorities of the City of Belgrade to prevent the unilateral termination of the contract for suburban and local transport services.

In a statement, the company clarified that the termination of the Public-Private Partnership Agreement for providing public suburban and local road transport in Belgrade, which was set to take effect on September 15, 2023, will not be discussed at today’s City Assembly session.

The company explained that the recent spontaneous work stoppage by “Lasta” employees, which affected suburban and local routes, was triggered by the proposed termination of the contract. The issue is now in the process of being resolved and will be fully concluded.

“Lasta” assured the public that regular passenger transport services would resume from 5:30 PM yesterday, as per the terms of the contract.

In its announcement, the company also apologized to passengers in Belgrade and Serbia for the unexpected work stoppage, explaining that it was a necessary response to the potential consequences of the contract termination, including the risk of the company’s closure and the loss of jobs for its workers and their families.

The company emphasized that the agreement was reached through coordinated efforts between the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of Serbia, the Ministry of Economy, and with the full support of the President of Serbia and the Prime Minister.
