Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) announced the revitalization of the second unit at the Bajina Bašta hydroelectric power plant (HPP) on March 1, following the successful completion of 30 days of trial operation for the first revitalized unit.
“Once the revitalization of our only reversible hydroelectric power plant, which was built 43 years ago, is completed, the reliability of our power system will see a significant improvement.” The first renewed unit operated flawlessly during its trial period, both in pump and turbine modes, under the supervision of experts from Toshiba Japan, as well as local institutes Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Pupin. All operational parameters were thoroughly monitored, confirming that the revitalization objectives were met,” stated EPS in their press release.
“Bajina Bašta HPP is the only reversible hydroelectric power plant in EPS and serves as a crucial reserve in Serbia’s power system, especially during peak electricity demand or dry periods, as well as whenever there is a shortage of electricity,” EPS further explained.
