Serbia and Israel strengthen economic ties ahead of free trade agreement and EXPO 2027

Importers from Israel are showing increasing interest in products from Serbia, with a free trade agreement between the two countries expected to be signed in September. Israel has also confirmed its participation in EXPO 2027 in Belgrade.

“After the visit of Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić to Israel, discussions with the local business community, importers, and accelerators have revealed growing interest in the standards and competitiveness of our exporters, as well as preparations for EXPO 2027,” said Aleksandar Nikolić, Director of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Office in Jerusalem and Honorary Consul of Serbia in Israel. He noted strong interest from retail supermarket chains and leading importers in the food industry.

“Accelerators like Tech7, as well as companies such as Colosseum and HYPE, which excel in sports innovations, are also looking forward to cooperation with Serbian businesses,” Nikolić added, according to the Serbian Chamber of Commerce website.

During the visit, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar emphasized that Israel sees Serbia as a strategic partner and confirmed participation in EXPO 2027 in Belgrade.

The discussions particularly focused on tourism and the networking of innovation ecosystems as part of strengthening bilateral relations. Minister Đurić pointed out that Serbia is a leader in economic growth in Southeast Europe, with a growth rate of about 4%, and a significant IT and software industry, offering a unique opportunity for partnership, Nikolić explained. During a meeting with the Speaker of the Knesset, Amir Ohana, they highlighted the 63% growth in trade exchange compared to the previous year, Israeli investments in Serbia reaching three billion dollars, and a 37% increase in tourist visits.

The very positive trends in the economic relations between Serbia and Israel are paving the way for the signing of the free trade agreement, which is expected in September, concluded the Serbian Chamber of Commerce representative in Jerusalem.
