The use of mobile banking in Serbia continues to increase, with 4.6 million users registered by the end of last year, marking a 13.9% rise compared to the 4 million users at the end of 2023. This represents a remarkable 222.7% increase from the end of 2018, according to data from the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) released today.
In terms of electronic banking, 4.4 million users were registered by the end of 2024, a 7.5% increase from 4.1 million users at the end of 2023. Alongside the growing number of users, there was also a significant increase in the volume of payments made via digital banking. Last year, mobile banking saw the highest number of payments ever recorded, reaching 109.3 million transactions, a 25.7% rise from 2023.
On the other hand, the number of payments via electronic banking has stabilized over the years, with 142.5 million payments made in 2024, which is a slight 1.8% decrease compared to 2023.
In the previous year, over 20.8 million bills and invoices were paid through regular monthly payments and other obligations via the NBS IPS QR code scanning service, representing a 42.5% increase compared to 2023 when 14.6 million bills were paid this way. There was also an increase in interest in the fast and easy transfer of funds using mobile phone numbers, i.e., the “send” service. This trend continued to grow in 2024, with over a million registered users by the end of the year, a threefold increase from the end of 2023, according to Tanjug.
