Benetton to close Niš plant after 14 Years, 865 workers affected

After 14 years of operation, the Italian textile giant “Benetton” is officially exiting Serbia, closing its facilities in Niš. By April 30, when the plant shuts down, the company will complete its administrative tasks, including finalizing the documentation for its departure and notifying Serbian authorities. The company will then proceed with liquidation.

Nearly all of the 865 employees have been dismissed, with most hoping to find new jobs within other local industries in Niš. Despite the significant efforts from the Serbian government, the Ministry of Economy, and the Niš city leadership—who have held multiple meetings and reached numerous agreements—there is still no clear indication whether new positions have been secured for the displaced workers.
