Serbia signed Agreement with Nigeria on cooperation in field of defence

 

Minister of Defence Dragan Sutanovac and Nigerian Minister of Defence Adetokunbo Kayode signed today in Belgrade the Agreement on cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence.

Sutanovac pointed out on this occasion that the meeting dealt with cooperation in the field of defence industry, military education, military health and multinational peacekeeping operations.

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the visit of a delegation from Nigeria, which is the second meeting of the two countries’ defence ministers over the past five years, which shows the need for a stronger linking of the two armies and states.

He said that the legacy of inter-state relations from before the 1990s is very good and voiced hope that the newly signed agreement will improve relations and allow for concrete action.

The main topic of the meeting was the military economic cooperation, the minister specified, adding that Nigeria is interested in buying weapons and military equipment from Serbia, but also for joint ventures and investments in this field.

According to him, there is also interest in cooperation in the field of military education and medicine.

Sutanovac said that Serbia is interested in Nigeria’s experience in peacekeeping operations and recalled that this country has so far sent more than two million of its members to peacekeeping missions.

Kayode said that Nigeria is also interested in technology transfer from Serbia, and noted that Serbia is famous for its excellent military medicine and good military education.

He advocated the exchanges of personnel at all levels and recalled that the Nigerian Centre for Peace Operations received a Certificate of Excellence from the UN and that Nigeria is one of the countries that contributes the most to international peacekeeping operations.
