In the trade of agriculture and food products, Serbia recorded a surplus of USD 1.2bn in 2010.
This number represents a 28-percent rise year-on-year, according to the data of the state Statistical Office, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) said on Wednesday.
Serbia exported USD 2.24bn worth of farming and food products to the world market, while importing goods worth USD 1.04bn.
“The agriculture and food industry exported almost half of their output last year. This is a record export and surplus for the agriculture sector, but still falls far short of the agriculture minister’s prediction of three billion dollars,” assessed Vojislav Stanković of the PKS.
Agriculture export rose 15.3 percent from 2009, and import grew 3.4 percent.
Agriculture export accounted for 22.9 of the country’s total exported goods, and import for 6.2 percent. The export/import ratio was 216.2 percent.
The favorable trade results were achieved “thanks to the Serbian agriculture’s preferential status in the EU market and the liberalization of trade with the countries in the Western Balkans (CEFTA)”, said the PKS.
