Air Serbia and China Southern Airlines have signed a code-share agreement in Guangzhou, China, to enhance air connectivity between Serbia and China. As part of the agreement, Air Serbia will add its “JU” code to China Southern’s direct flights between Belgrade and Guangzhou. This partnership offers passengers convenient connections through Guangzhou to over 20 destinations in China Southern’s extensive network, including cities like Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Singapore, Phuket, Bangkok, Seoul, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur.
In return, China Southern Airlines has placed its marketing code on Air Serbia’s direct flights between Belgrade and Guangzhou, as well as between Belgrade and Shanghai. This allows passengers from southern China to easily connect to 21 European destinations, including Berlin, Milan, Zurich and Bologna.
Air Serbia’s CEO, Jirži Marek, commented on the partnership: “Just over three months ago, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China Southern Airlines to strengthen our cooperation and enhance connectivity between Serbia and China. With the launch of direct flights between Belgrade and Guangzhou and Shanghai, we’ve unlocked new opportunities. We are committed to continuing to explore ways to expand our partnership, offering passengers more travel options and enabling faster, easier access to distant destinations.”
In September 2024, the two airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which also includes improving cooperation in areas such as code-share agreements, cargo operations, ground handling, MRO services (maintenance, repair, and overhaul), catering, and the possibility of joint investments.
Air Serbia introduced direct flights to Shanghai on January 11, 2025, with a twice-weekly service from Belgrade on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and flights from Shanghai operating on Wednesdays and Sundays. The two airlines are exploring further commercial opportunities to expand their collaboration even further.
