Air Serbia’s expansion: New routes and fleet ugrades on the horizon

Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure, Goran Vesić, announced that Air Serbia has received approval from Chinese aviation authorities to operate flights between Belgrade and Shanghai twice weekly, as well as between Belgrade and Guangzhou three times weekly, with the permits valid for three years. The commencement of direct flights to Shanghai and Guangzhou is contingent upon the incorporation of new wide-body aircraft into Air Serbia’s fleet. Currently, the airline is in the process of acquiring two Airbus A330 aircraft, with the first expected to arrive by late July or early August this year. Upon completion of all necessary fleet integration procedures, anticipated for September or October this year, the aircraft will be deployed for new direct routes to China, including one weekly flight to Shanghai and another to Guangzhou,” Vesić explained.

Speaking on the morning program of TV Prva, Minister Vesić highlighted Air Serbia’s achievement of transporting 303,189 passengers in April this year, marking the company’s highest April performance since its inception. “In comparison to April 2023, we observed a seven percent increase in passenger numbers this April, with a total of 3,271 flights operated from Serbian airports. To date in 2024, Air Serbia has served over a million passengers, demonstrating a consistent growth trend compared to the same period last year,” Vesić emphasized.

Vesić also shared insights into Air Serbia’s popular routes, noting that top destinations in Western Europe include Paris, Zurich, Milan, London, Rome, and Amsterdam, while regional favorites are Podgorica and Tivat. Additionally, flights to Istanbul, Athens, Barcelona, and Larnaca have been in high demand within the broader Euro-Mediterranean region.
