Almost 90 percent of coal exports from Bosnia and Herzegovina go to Serbia

Due to the energy crisis in Europe, the export of coal from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has doubled in the first seven months compared to the same period last year, and almost 90 percent of exports are directed to Serbia, writes Nezvisne Novine from Banja Luka, reports Tanjug.

Independent reports, referring to the data of the Administration for Indirect Taxation of BiH, that from January to August of this year, 206,720 tons of coal with a total value of 30.5 million convertible marks were exported from BiH, of which the export to Serbia was worth 28.2 million convertible marks.

Energy expert Almir Bečarević told Nezavisne that 80 or even 90 percent of coal was exported to Serbia this year due to the needs of the neighboring country to provide energy for heating and electricity production, but that this created problems on the BiH internal market.

“Domestic mines have profited, because exports are twice as large, but on the other hand, we have a problem on the domestic market, because citizens in the Tuzla Canton, which is the epicenter of coal production in Bosnia and Herzegovina, cannot get the coal they have already paid for”, Bečarević said, Politika reports.
