Belgrade’s gondola and new attractions: Updates on the Usce Park development project

Although officials have not provided recent public updates on the Belgrade gondola construction project, planning documents suggest that the project is still progressing, according to eKapija.

The gondola, which is designed to connect Usce and Kalemegdan, is mentioned in the Urban Project of the Usce Park. The Secretariat for Urban Planning and Construction Affairs recently announced a public presentation of this project. The gondola and mast projects are highlighted under the section on “acquired urban obligations.”

The Urban Planning Documentation (PDR) for Friendship Park – Usce includes plans for several major developments in the area, including the construction of a 21st Century Art Museum, a new building for the Natural History Museum, an aquarium, an observation deck, an information point, and public restrooms. These projects were selected based on the winning design from an urban-architecture competition.

The document also notes that, in addition to these facilities, the PDR for Friendship Park-Ušće includes a location for the installation of a flagpole with the Serbian national flag, near the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. Notably, the gondola is part of this plan, with its route extending through the park near Branko Bridge. The gondola station is proposed near the intersection of Nikola Tesla Boulevard and Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard.

Additionally, the EXPO 2027 initiative proposes a panoramic balloon as a temporary attraction within the park. The balloon would be located north of the Branko Bridge, opposite TC Usće, close to the planned gondola route. Designed to be stationary and tethered, the balloon would offer vertical movement up to a height of 150 meters, providing a panoramic view of Belgrade.
