Construction preparations underway for Kostolac wind farm

Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, announced that preparatory work for the construction of the Kostolac wind farm is currently underway, with the installation of wind turbines expected to commence during the summer.

During discussions held today with representatives from Siemens Energy Serbia and Elektroprivreda Srbije, Minister Handanović emphasized the importance of adhering to the established timeline to ensure the timely completion and grid connection of the wind farm.

According to her statements, the wind farm will consist of 20 wind turbines, providing electricity to approximately 30,000 households. This project marks Elektroprivreda Srbije’s first production capacity from renewable energy sources, contributing an additional 66 MW of green energy to the energy system, as reported by the Government of Serbia’s website.

Minister Handanović highlighted Serbia’s ongoing energy transition, with strategic documents outlining a target of obtaining 45% of electrical energy from renewable sources by 2030.

“Our goal by the end of the decade, through investments from both the public and private sectors, is to secure a total of 3.4 GW of green energy, underscoring the vital role of EPS in this process,” stated Minister Đedović Handanović.

The construction of the Kostolac wind farm is financed by funds from the European Union’s Western Balkans Investment Framework of 30 million euros, alongside grants and a loan from KfW totaling 81.8 million euros, with the Serbian government, specifically EPS, contributing 32.2 million euros.
