Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković addressed the upcoming U.S. sanctions on NIS due to Russian ownership, stating that Croatia and Serbia have discussed cooperation between JANAF and NIS in Brussels. He emphasized the need for a solution that is sustainable for both JANAF and Serbia’s energy policy and economy. He assured that Serbia would not run out of oil due to Croatia, highlighting that it is not in anyone’s interest, including Serbia’s, for this to happen. Plenković further explained that Serbia relies heavily on the Adriatic pipeline, which transports most of its oil, and that Croatia will not block this supply.
Plenković mentioned that Serbia’s energy security depends on this pipeline, and he reiterated that Croatia is not trying to prevent the flow of oil to Serbia, which is about 95% reliant on this route. He pointed out that although barges on the Danube can carry only small amounts of oil, Croatia has built energy infrastructure, including the Omišalj terminal, the Adriatic oil pipeline, an LNG terminal, and gas pipelines to ensure energy security for both Croatia and neighboring countries. This infrastructure allows for a diversified energy supply in the region.
