Degert: Turning to renewable energy sources

Energy consumption is growing and it is necessary to turn to renewable and safer energy sources, it was assessed on the second day of the Conference on Energy and Sustainable Development underway in Kragujevac. Head of the EU Delegation in Serbia Vincent Degert said that Europe is the world’s largest importer of energy, and that therefore the solution of energy supply is a challenge. Degert said that energy policy plays an important role in the process of the EU integration. The EU policy until 2020 involves ambitious goals: reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 20%, reduction in use of primary energy sources, and increase of energy efficiency by 20%, said Degert. He pointed out that Serbia has very limited energy resources and at the same time very demanding economy, which is why it is necessary to increase energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources.
