By the end of 2026, 80% of hydroelectric plants will be refurbished, providing additional years of security for our electricity system, stated Dušan Živković, General Director of Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS).
At the conference “Renewable Energy Sources (RES) Serbia 2024”, he announced that in the coming years, EPS plans to develop a portfolio featuring one gigawatt (GW) of self-balancing solar power plants, along with a 200 megawatt (MW) energy storage battery system, as reported by Insajder.
Živković emphasized that with all existing projects, he envisions 2030 as a pivotal year for EPS, marked by significant decarbonization and an increased share of renewable energy sources (RES), ultimately achieving set goals.
During the panel discussion “Challenges of Integrating RES into the Electricity System – Serbia and the Region,” he highlighted ongoing efforts, including the construction of the first wind farm in “Kostolac” and the solar power plant “Petka.” Additionally, EPS is analyzing locations for new RES projects, primarily on its own land where expropriation is unnecessary, notably on ash dumps from domestic thermal power plants.
