Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) will officially take over block B3 of the Kostolac thermal power plant from the Chinese company CMEK, marking a significant step forward in its efforts to enhance energy production and security, announced EPS Director Dušan Živković.
Speaking at the “New Era of Energy: Where Are Regional Power Companies Today – Plans for the Future” conference in Belgrade, Živković highlighted that this move will add 350 megawatts of electricity, strengthening EPS’s capacity after three decades.
Živković emphasized that the new block B3 is not only more modern but also significantly more efficient, promising to bolster energy security and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Additionally, progress is being made on the 66-megawatt Kostolac wind farm, with three wind generators already installed, while 70 percent of the 10-megawatt “Petka” solar power plant has been completed.
Together, these projects will bring over 400 new megawatts to the Kostolac region, signaling a new path for EPS in its transformation towards a more sustainable future, Živković stated. He also stressed the importance of regional power companies following this path of modernization.
