Importance of development of recycling industry

Minister of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic said yesterday that in last two years, when the laws in the field of recycling were enacted, 7,000 people found jobs in Serbia’s recycling industry.

Dulic said after the meeting with representatives of the recycling industry that despite problems, recycling industry kicked off the ground and became profitable.

He noted that one of the problems affecting this industry is a large export of secondary raw materials from Serbia which is why the state agreed with companies on how to establish a stock exchange of secondary raw materials and conduct inspections.

The Minister voiced hope that by the end of this government’s mandate, a total of 10,000 people will get employed in the “green economy”. He added that so far recycling industry has received more than RSD 1 billion from the Fund for Environmental Protection through collection of environmental taxes.

However, the level of recycling in Serbia is still very low, although the potential is huge, noting that the turning point in the development of recycling industry will be the opening of 30 recycling yards by the end of this year.

This will enable all big cities to start with separation of waste and households will be given bags in which they will dispose of secondary raw materials that can be recycled such as paper, glass, plastic, aluminium, Dulic said.
