Italy interested in building rail corridors 10 and 11 in Serbia

Italy’s state railway company Ferrovie dello Stato SpA is interested in taking part in upgrades of Serbia’s north-south rail lines and extending them to improve Belgrade’s link to Romania and Ukraine, Tanjug news agency reported, citing Chief Executive Officer Mauro Moretti.

Ferrovie experts already cooperate with Serbia’s state rail company Zeleznice Srbije (Serbian Railways) on technology transfers, the newswire reported, quoting Moretti.

Mr. Moretti, chairman of the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies and vice chairman of the International Union of Railways, pointed out that Italy wanted to help Serbia develop railway transport in order to connect the territory of the Balkans, comprising several countries, with the rest of Europe where “a single market of transport services is being created”.
