Looms bring hope back – New attempt at reviving textile industry in Prijepolje

The company Trend-teks, owned by Sucko Hadzijakupovic, has started preparations to open a weaving mill and a ready-made clothing production unit within the textile plant Ljubisa Miodragovic on Kolovrat, which was closed a long time ago. The company plans to produce fabrics of cotton and polyester for industrial safety equipment for the renowned Italian firm Kolpman.

– We have agreed with the Ministry of Economy and the Privatization Agency to first rent the space and machines within the plant, while later we will talk about privatization – Esad Hodzic, the Chairman of the Prijepolje Development Council, told Novosti daily paper.

– We have been assured by the state that it will help us revive the fallen economy. Trend-teks has got the same benefits as Benetton did for the recent agreed investment in Nis.

Representatives of Trend-teks and the Development Council entered the units of once the biggest plant in Prijepolje on Wednesday. An expert team of textile workers will first check the state of looms and other equipment, which were conserved last year after the canceled privatization and two unsuccessful tenders for sale of that plant. They assume that the first fabrics should come off the lines in several weeks.
