Minister discusses solutions for displaced workers and future economic growth in Niš

Minister of Economy, Adriana Mesarović, held discussions in Niš with representatives of major companies operating in the city and potential investors about ways in which they can contribute to resolving the issue of employees at the Benetton factory, which unexpectedly announced the dismissal of 950 people. She emphasized on Instagram that Niš has a strong and developed economy, and the government will do everything possible to address the situation of those who lost their jobs.

She pointed out that the sudden closure of the Niš factory is a result of global issues faced by Benetton, which in the past year has closed 400 stores, as well as a production facility in Croatia, and now in Serbia.

“We will do everything to find a solution for every person affected, and we have the support of President Aleksandar Vučić. At the same time, we will continue to develop the economy of the city of Niš and attract new investors,” Mesarović said.

She added that the further development of a major economic center like Niš will certainly benefit from the new employment of people with significant work experience.

“I’m glad to hear from the largest Niš entrepreneurs that they have plans for expanding investments and reinvesting, which will, in turn, create new jobs,” she said.
