MTS users face price increases starting January 5, 2025; Consumers have right to cancel contracts without penalty

MTS announced that, starting January 5, 2025, all existing users will be required to switch to new, more expensive packages, which will feature additional services, such as unlimited internet, minutes, and SMS. The price increases, while adding extra benefits, have led to complaints from consumers, with many claiming that the operator is raising prices without clear communication.

Consumer organizations have expressed concern, with some users reporting significant price hikes—such as an increase from 3,199 to 3,849 dinars for the Soko Lite postpaid tariff. Consumers have the right to terminate their contract without penalty before December 31 if they disagree with the price change, as stipulated by Serbian law.

The National Consumer Organization of Serbia (NOPS) has emphasized that the operator must inform customers about the price changes, and that users can cancel their contracts without penalty. However, complications arise for users who received mobile devices as part of their contract, as the law does not provide clear guidance on how to handle these situations.

In contrast, mobile operators Yettel and A1 have stated that they currently have no plans to raise their prices.
