As announced by the company MTU Maintenance Serbia today, a part of the company’s activities in 2023 was dedicated to obtaining key international certificates, among which the most crucial approvals were from European and American aviation authorities. This has enabled the full operational functionality of the largest foreign investment in the Serbian aerospace industry in recent times.
According to the company, a crucial activity for any MTU organization globally, after its establishment, is obtaining approvals from various national aviation authorities to enable the company’s facilities to handle the delivery of navigational engine components to clients.
In the year 2020, when the construction of the site in Nova Pazova was in full swing, a project team was formed consisting of colleagues from Munich, Langenhagen, Ludvigsfeld, and other locations. Their task was to define the roadmap and future structure of the new location’s system and to establish the MTU Maintenance Serbia team that would lead the development.
During the subsequent workshops, this team decided that the new system in Serbia would be a replica of MTU Maintenance Hanover with certain adaptations. Each process owner reviewed and redefined all necessary documentation and approvals, ensuring that by the time the processes and procedures were officially announced in the MTU Teamcenter Cockpit, their adjustments were already underway in daily activities. – as stated in the announcement.
Since the beginning of 2020, the company, through its initial project team for the location in Serbia, initiated the application for approval under the same certificate number as MTU Maintenance Hanover from the Luftfahrtbundesamt (LBA), which acts as the competent authority of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Simultaneously, applications for independent approvals were submitted to the U.S. FAA. Following appropriate revisions, MTU Maintenance Serbia received the LBA certificate in December 2022, followed by FAA approval in January 2023.
It has been a long journey that required a lot of effort to successfully obtain all these approvals from the relevant authorities, and all departments and the entire team have done an excellent job,” says Philip Mueller-Tasche, Director of Quality at MTU Maintenance Serbia. He adds, “Whether it was the preparatory phase, where all documents and procedures had to be created, or during the process of organizing and coordinating approval reviews, or even during the handling and submission of Corrective Action Reports.
