Negotiations on export of Fiat automobiles to Russia

Serbia is going to negotiate with the Russian Federation on duty-free export of automobiles made in the plant Fiat Automobili Srbija in Kragujevac, Minister of Economy Mladjan Dinkic announced today.

– Together with President of Serbia Boris Tadic, I will go to Moscow in spring to talk about export of Fiat automobiles – Dinkic said to the press.

According to the Free Trade Agreement between Serbia and Russian Federation, car parts from Serbia can be exported free of duties to the market of Russia, but duty-free export does not apply to complete vehicles.

The plan of Fiat, as Dinkic pointed out, is to purchase 5% of components in Serbia for vehicles produced in all Fiat’s plants around the world as of 2013, which would annually bring Serbia a profit worth billions of euros.

Fiat has signed agreements with seven companies in Serbia in the first round of suppliers, and the largest number of them will be situated in the location of Grosnica barracks instead of Korman field.

The military complex on about 30 ha in Grosnica is placed at the disposal of Fiat’s partners after last week’s agreement between the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Defense.

As Dinkic explained, what is certain at the moment is that Fiat’s suppliers in Kragujevac will be the companies Magneti Marelli and Johnson Control.
