Voluntary pension insurance in Serbia: Key statistics and trends for Q2

According to a report from the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), 223,452 people, or 9.6% of the total workforce in Serbia, are participating in voluntary pension insurance.

The average accumulated amount in the accounts of fund members was 287,000 dinars, with 20.2% of contributors being members of two or more funds. The gender distribution among users has remained stable, with men comprising 57% of all participants.

As of the end of the second quarter, the average age of voluntary pension fund users was approximately 48 years, with the majority (62%) aged between 40 and 60.

In the second quarter, the total net contributions to voluntary pension funds amounted to about 1.2 billion dinars. Of this, 39.3% were individual contributions, 34.5% came from employers contributing on behalf of their employees, and 26.2% were contributions made through pension plans.

The net assets of the funds at the end of the second quarter totaled 57.4 billion dinars, representing a 3.2% increase from the previous quarter. Total net contributions in the second quarter were also 1.2 billion dinars.

Members who met the necessary conditions for withdrawal took out 621.7 million dinars, while investment returns on fund assets reached 1.2 billion dinars.

The investment structure of the fund assets did not significantly change compared to the previous period. Government bonds made up the largest share, accounting for 74.2% of total assets. Shares of domestic legal entities comprised 11.1%, while cash and term deposits at banks represented 10.9%. Investments abroad constituted 2.0% of the total fund assets.
