Pupin wind power plant in Kovačica begins trial operations, boosting Serbia’s renewable energy capacity

The Pupin wind power plant in Kovačica has completed construction and begun trial operations, with the 95-megawatt plant now producing and supplying electricity to the Electric Power Company of Serbia. This project is an investment by the Israeli company Enlight.

The Pupin wind farm is the second phase of a wind energy complex being developed by Enlight in Banat. The first phase, the Kovačica wind farm, began operations with a capacity of 104 megawatts. With the addition of the Pupin plant, the total renewable energy production from this project reaches 199 megawatts, providing enough power for over 100,000 households. Marko Lipoščak, General Manager for Europe at Enlight, expressed pride in this milestone, highlighting the future business and job opportunities that the project will generate for the region.

The technology behind the wind farm has advanced significantly in the five years since the first phase, with 16 turbines at Pupin now producing nearly as much energy as the 38 turbines at Kovačica. Avivit Bar Ilan, Israel’s Ambassador to Serbia, expressed pride in the role of Enlight in advancing Serbia’s renewable energy efforts. Charlotte Ruhe, Executive Director for Central and Southeastern Europe at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, also emphasized the importance of this project for Serbia’s transition to renewable energy.
