Dubravka Đedović Handanović, Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia, announced the successful completion of warranty testing for the B3 energy block in Kostolac, marking a significant milestone in Serbia’s energy sector. This new facility, built with the latest technologies and environmental protections, is a step towards increasing the country’s energy capacity, which has been a priority for decades. She also highlighted plans for the upcoming solar plant and wind park in Kostolac, as well as the revitalization of the Bajina Bašta reversible hydroelectric power plant.
In addition to the successful projects, Đedović Handanović spoke about the historic amendments to the Energy Law, which aim to define and promote “active consumers” (prosumers), encouraging businesses to generate energy for their own use and sell the surplus. The new regulations are seen as key to advancing nuclear energy development in Serbia, with the first step being the lifting of a 35-year moratorium on nuclear power. She mentioned that Serbia will cooperate with neighboring countries to implement the best nuclear technologies.
The minister also discussed the introduction of dynamic electricity tariffs, designed to encourage more efficient energy use by aligning prices with market demand, particularly at night. Digital meters are being installed to facilitate these new tariffs, with plans to install 600,000 new meters across Serbia.
Furthermore, Đedović Handanović touched on ongoing projects aimed at improving energy efficiency in buildings across 14 Serbian cities, with a €65 million pilot project focused on residential energy audits and upgrades expected to start by the end of next year.
