Serbia and Jiangsu province discuss strengthening economic ties

Serbian Minister of Economy, Adriana Mesarović, held discussions with the Secretary of the Communist Party of China’s Jiangsu Province and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Congress, Xin Changxing, regarding the potential for further economic cooperation between Serbia and Jiangsu.

Mesarović shared on Instagram that Jiangsu is China’s second-largest province by GDP, with a population of 85 million and a highly developed industry.

“With the launch of the new direct air route between Belgrade and Shanghai, new opportunities for cooperation are opening up,” Mesarović stated.

She further emphasized that the total trade volume between Serbia and Jiangsu reached $400 million in 2023, while in the first 11 months of 2024, trade exchange grew by 61% compared to the same period last year.

“My counterpart particularly highlighted that Serbia and Jiangsu have significant potential for cooperation in the areas of green energy, infrastructure, and the production of key components for next-generation electric vehicles,” Mesarović added.

The Minister noted that they agreed to intensify efforts to develop partnerships with companies interested in investing in Serbia.

Additionally, she mentioned that Serbia will receive strong support in fostering cooperation with Jiangsu’s commercial chains to ensure the promotion of Serbian food products.

“I have invited Mr. Xin to visit Serbia so we can continue discussions on the potential for further deepening cooperation, strategic partnerships, and everything agreed upon between Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Chinese President Xi Jinping,” Mesarović concluded.
