Serbia and Saudi Arabia discuss strengthening cooperation in AI, science and innovation

At the Global Partnership for Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Ministerial Summit, Serbia’s Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Jelena Begović, held a meeting with Abdullah Sharaf Algamdi, the President of the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA). During the discussion, Minister Begović highlighted Serbia’s readiness to play an active role in the global scientific and innovation communities, emphasizing the importance of collaborating with technological leaders like Saudi Arabia.

“Serbia is eager to engage in the global development and application of artificial intelligence. Saudi Arabia is a key player in this sector, and our cooperation has the potential to yield tangible outcomes, including joint research initiatives and the development of innovative solutions in smart cities, healthcare, and the digital economy,” Minister Begović stated.

The Saudi side praised the ongoing collaboration with Serbia, noting that both countries share strong bilateral relations. “We are grateful for Serbia’s support during our GPAI membership process. Additionally, Saudi Arabia has been backing certain infrastructure projects in Serbia. We also appreciate Serbia’s support in the establishment of the AI Accelerator, which focuses on two main areas: Smart City technology and Generative AI,” said Abdullah Sharaf Algamdi.

The meeting concluded with the suggestion to formalize cooperation through an official agreement in the fields of science and innovation. It was also proposed to organize business visits to further enhance the relationship between the two countries and create new opportunities for researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs.
