Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic talked today with the World Bank’s Regional Director for Infrastructure for Europe and Central Asia, Charles Cormier, about reforms in the energy sector, energy transition and new projects with the World Bank.
“This year, Serbia has embarked on an energy transition, in which the three main challenges will be to increase energy efficiency, use the potential of renewable energy sources and gradually reduce the share of coal-fired energy. We have adopted a new legislative framework, climate and energy plan and new energy development strategies, which will determine the scenarios for further development of the energy sector,” said Mihajlovic.
The meeting also discussed the possible support of the World Bank for financing incentives for improving energy efficiency in the housing sector within the new project worth 50 million dollars.
Cormier pointed out that the World Bank is ready to support the activities of the Ministry, especially in the process of decarbonization, and stressed the importance of commitment to involving citizens in the process of energy transition and cooperation with civil society, Novi Magazin reports.
