The payment of December pensions begins today, and as promised, all pensioners will receive pensions increased by 10.9% by January 6, on Christmas Eve, announced the Minister of Finance, SiniĊĦa Mali.
“We are proud that all pensioners will receive their increased pensions one month earlier, starting from December instead of January. This is truly great news and a sign of, on one hand, the care for our oldest citizens, and on the other hand, the stability of our public finances,” he wrote on his Instagram account. He added that after this increase, the average pension in 2024 will be âĴ394, while the average pension in the current year is expected to be around âĴ436, more than double the amount in 2012 when the average pension was âĴ204.
Mali emphasized that the pension increase is real, and that since the beginning of the global crisis in 2020, the pensions, including the most recent increase of 10.9%, have risen by 34.9% in real terms.
“Despite all the global challenges, instability, and the world economic crisis, we have managed to preserve and increase the standard of living for our oldest citizens. We continue to pursue a responsible economic policy, implement major projects we have started, and improve the quality of life for the citizens of Serbia,” he said.
According to him, the goal is for the average pension in Serbia to reach âĴ650 by the end of 2027, along with the minimum wage, while the average salary will be âĴ1,400.
“This is a goal we will not and cannot give up on,” he concluded.
