Serbia extends import restrictions on sunflower oil and margarine for another six months

The Government of Serbia implemented a decision to extend the restrictions on the import of edible sunflower oil and margarine for an additional six months. Originally set to last for nine months, the restriction was extended to a total of 15 months, with the new extension taking effect from December 17.

The decision, first enacted in March 2023, was made in order to protect domestic production and support primary producers in Serbia. Under this decision, the import of edible sunflower oil and margarine is limited to quarterly permits, with the total allowable quantity based on the average of imports over the last four years, including the expected imports for 2024 up until the point of implementation, which is December 17.

This move is seen as an ongoing effort by the Serbian government to safeguard the domestic agricultural and food industries amid global market fluctuations.
