Serbia signs agreement to boost innovation ecosystem in Kosovo and Metohija

A cooperation agreement for the realization of innovation ecosystem development projects in Kosovo and Metohija was signed by Milan Ranđelović, Director of the Niš Science and Technology Park, responsible for southern and eastern Serbia, Milan Vučinić, Director of the Regional Innovation Center in Zubin Potok, and Borislav Tajić, Deputy Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija. The Minister of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation, Jelena Begović, stated that a total of 13.7 million dinars has been allocated in 2025 to improve the innovation ecosystem in Kosovo and Metohija, according to a government press release.

Begović added that this agreement would contribute to job creation and economic growth, thereby strengthening the Serbian community in the southern province and facilitating the return of displaced people.

“These investments reflect Serbia’s clear commitment to continuously assist the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija and offer young people in the southern province a chance to remain in their birthplace while engaging in innovation and modern entrepreneurship to build a modern Serbia,” said Begović.

She also highlighted that the Regional Innovation Center in Zubin Potok, established in 2023, is a crucial initiative supporting local innovative entrepreneurship and providing young innovators and entrepreneurs with space for networking.

Additionally, Begović mentioned that an innovation incubator at the University of Kosovska Mitrovica was recently approved. In collaboration with the Regional Innovation Center in Zubin Potok, it will serve as an essential resource for developing young talents, supporting startups, and commercializing innovations.

Milan Vučinić, Director of the Regional Innovation Center in Zubin Potok, emphasized that the projects outlined in the agreement are investments in the future of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija. He pointed out that the signing of the document represents a significant step toward strengthening the innovation system, which will contribute to the development of innovations, the IT sector, and education in Kosovo and Metohija, enabling young people to develop ideas and shape their future.

The agreement outlines five key activities to support the center, including direct support, an accelerator program, competitions, and opportunities for participation in international conferences.
