Serbia-Japan Business Forum welcomes new opportunities for investment

The Serbia-Japan Business Forum is currently taking place at the Palace of Serbia, featuring over 100 representatives from Japanese companies. President Aleksandar Vučić encouraged these representatives to visit Serbia more frequently. Djetro Susumu Kataoke, president of the Japanese Foreign Trade Organization, expressed hope for further Japanese investment in Serbia soon.

During the forum, President Vučić announced that Air Serbia plans to establish a direct flight between Belgrade and Tokyo within the next six months, emphasizing the importance of this connection. He mentioned discussions with Minister Sinisa Mali regarding the introduction of three new direct flights from Belgrade, including one to Tokyo.

Vučić highlighted Serbia’s stable dinar exchange rate over the past 12 years and noted that incentives and subsidies for Japanese companies in Serbia are competitive with the best in Europe and the broader region. He acknowledged that improvements are still needed in areas such as the rule of law and the judicial system.

Despite the complex geopolitical landscape, Vučić believes this could present investment opportunities, assuring that Serbia will maintain peace and stability in the region and foster good relations with all nations.

Currently, trade between Serbia and Japan stands at less than 350 million euros, but Vučić sees potential for future growth. He commended Japanese Ambassador Akira Imamura for his efforts to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Reflecting on his visit to Japan 13 years ago, Vučić shared insights into Japanese history, culture, and work ethic, mentioning visits to companies like Toyota. He was struck by the dedication of Japanese workers and their impressive infrastructure.

Vučić concluded by expressing pride in Serbia’s progress and the hard work of its people, stating that with increased Japanese investment, the country can achieve its aspirations and dreams.
