Serbia, ÖBB Rail Cargo Group has a new subsidiary

ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has established a new subsidiary in Belgrade. Rail Cargo Carrier – Southeast doo made Serbia the 13th country in Europe where RCG offers sustainable rail freight transport with its own staff and locomotives.
The new railway carrier will mainly provide transit services between Turkey and Central and South-Eastern Europe, which will strengthen RCG’s leading position in the market in Turkey.

CEO of RCG, Clemens Först, says: “As a sustainable logistics backbone of the European economy, we can now also offer Serbian industrial companies an efficient and sustainable connection to our network (TransNET). In addition to cost advantages and increased quality, internal traction in 13 countries also it offers a greater degree of flexibility. This means, for example, that we can now carry out transport to Turkey on two alternative routes – via Romania and via Serbia – in order to be more resistant to infrastructure constraints.

The link with Turkey has huge potential for sustainable, climate-friendly rail freight. As it stands now, Turkey’s foreign trade is still heavily dependent on trucking. Railways currently account for only about one percent of Turkey’s exports. By establishing a company in Serbia, RCG ensures the expansion and attractiveness of rail freight transport in Southeastern Europe, SEEbiz writes.
