In November 2024, Serbia saw a decline in building permits issued, with a total of 2,811 permits granted, marking a 16.3% decrease compared to the same period in 2023, according to the Republic Institute of Statistics.
The majority of permits, 85.3%, were for the construction of buildings, while 14.7% were for other structures. Within the building category, 85.8% were for residential buildings, and 14.2% were for non-residential structures. Among other buildings, 70.2% of permits were for pipelines, communication, and electrical lines.
A total of 2,391 apartments are projected to be built, with an average size of 74.7 m². Of these, 14.1% will be single-apartment buildings, with an average size of 151.3 m², while 84.0% will be in buildings with three or more apartments, averaging 60.6 m².
The total projected value of new construction in November 2024 is 85.9% of the overall projected construction value. The Belgrade region is expected to lead with 28.4% of the projected construction value, followed by Zapadnobačka (9.7%), Nišava (9.5%), Juznobačka (6.6%), and North Bačka (6.1%), with smaller shares in other regions.
This marks a continued decline in the number of building permits issued, following similar decreases in the preceding months of 2024. In October, 3,617 permits were issued, representing a 4% decrease from 2023, while September saw 2,872 permits, a 7.7% drop compared to the same month last year.
