In May 2024, Serbia issued 2,461 construction permits, marking a 2.4 percent increase compared to May 2023, according to the Republic Statistical Office (RZS).
Of the total permits issued in May 2024, 81.8 percent were for buildings, and 18.2 percent for other structures. Among the building permits, 78.5 percent were for residential buildings and 21.5 percent for non-residential buildings. For other structures, 67.4 percent of the permits were related to pipelines, communication, and electrical lines.
During this period, permits were granted for the construction of 2,468 apartments with an average area of 76.9 square meters.
Regarding new housing units, 15.4 percent were houses with an average area of 153.3 square meters, while 82.2 percent were apartments in buildings with three or more units, averaging 61.1 square meters.
According to RZS, the highest estimated value of new construction was in the Juznobačka region at 22.3 percent, followed by 17.4 percent in the Mačvan region, 14.3 percent in Belgrade, 9.9 percent in the Srem region, and 6 percent in the Šumadija region.
