In Serbia, 3,617 construction permits were issued in October 2024, reflecting a 4% decrease compared to the same month last year, according to the Republic Institute of Statistics.
Of the total permits issued, 86.7% were for buildings, while 13.3% were for other types of structures. Among the building permits, 87.3% were for residential buildings, and 12.7% were for non-residential buildings. The majority of the non-building permits were for infrastructure projects, such as pipelines, and communication and electrical lines.
The reported construction projects will result in the creation of 6,469 new apartments, with an average size of 69.6 square meters. Of these, 7% will be built in single-apartment buildings with an average size of 147.9 square meters, while the remaining 92.4% will be in multi-apartment buildings, with an average apartment size of 63.2 square meters. The total estimated value of new construction projects represents 91.1% of the overall value of construction works in the country.
The highest construction activity is expected to occur in the Belgrade region, accounting for 74% of all new permits. The Southern Serbia region follows with 4.7%, the Morava region at 3.6%, Raška at 2.6% and Mačva at 1.6%.
