Serbia’s tourism sector continues to show impressive growth, with foreign exchange inflows from tourism reaching 2.5 billion euros in the first eleven months of 2024, according to Minister of Tourism Husein Memić. This marks a 9 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, continuing the upward trend observed over the past decade.
Memić highlighted that the inflows from tourism have more than tripled since 2014, when they were significantly lower. The foreign exchange inflow from tourism in 2014 was much smaller, and by 2024, it had more than doubled, with a growth of nearly 202 percent over the past decade. The average annual increase in tourism revenue during this period has been around 12-14 percent, showcasing the steady development of the industry.
This remarkable growth is attributed to significant improvements in Serbia’s infrastructure, accommodation facilities, and global tourism promotion efforts. According to Memić, these advances have contributed greatly to both the tourism sector’s success and the broader Serbian economy.
The Ministry of Tourism and Youth plans to continue supporting the sector with subsidies and systemic measures, with an emphasis on rural tourism and sustainable development. Memić expressed optimism that this positive trend will continue into the future, ensuring long-term growth for Serbia’s tourism industry.
