Tourist arrivals in Serbia rise in August 2024, while overnight stays decline

In August 2024, Serbia welcomed 495,869 registered tourists, a 2% increase compared to August 2023. However, the total number of overnight stays reached 1.47 million, reflecting a decrease of 5.2% from the previous year, according to the Republic Institute of Statistics (RZS).

Foreign visitors increased by 11.6%, totaling 282,070, while domestic tourists numbered 213,799, marking an 8.5% decline year-on-year. Domestic tourists accounted for 810,144 overnight stays in August, down 15.21%, while overnight stays by foreign tourists rose by 10.6% to 667,941.

The most popular spa destinations included Vrnjačka Banja, Sokobanja, Vrdnik Banja, Bukovička Banja, and Palić Banja, alongside mountain resorts like Zlatibor, Kopaonik, Fruška gora, Tara and Divčibare. The highest number of foreign tourists came from Turkey (34,170), followed by Germany, Romania, China and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

From January to August 2024, a total of 2.9 million tourists visited Serbia, representing a 7.3% increase over the same period last year, with a total of 8.8 million overnight stays, up 3.4% year-on-year.
