Serbia announces new auction price limits for wind and solar power plants

The Serbian government has announced that the maximum auction price for wind power plants at upcoming market premium auctions will be 79 euros per MWh, while for solar power plants, the maximum price is set at 72 euros per MWh. This decision was made during today’s government session.

These new price caps represent a significant reduction compared to last year’s auctions, where the maximum price was 105 euros per MWh for wind energy and 90 euros for solar.

During the session, the government also adopted proposals for new regulations from the Ministry of Mining and Energy. These include three key regulations: one concerning market premiums and feed-in tariffs, and two related to the quotas for wind and solar power plants under the market premium system.

The wind power regulation proposes a quota of 300 MW, while the solar power regulation sets a quota of 124.8 MW. These regulations are designed to govern the upcoming auctions and pave the way for their announcement.

Rade Mrdak, an advisor to the Ministry of Mining and Energy, confirmed during the OIE SERBIA 2024 conference that the auctions for market premiums are expected to be announced in November.

OIE Serbia also reminded that at last year’s auctions, the lowest accepted price for wind power plants was 64.48 euros per MWh, while the highest price for solar was 89.8 euros per MWh.
