Serbia, Slovenia and Hungary launch joint regional electricity exchange for greater efficiency

The first regional electricity exchange in Southeast Europe, involving Serbia, Slovenia and Hungary, has officially begun operations, announced Dubravka Đedović Handanović, Serbia’s Minister of Mining and Energy.

The three countries have combined their electricity exchanges to enhance the efficiency of electricity trading. According to the Minister, this collaboration will improve the availability of electricity for citizens and businesses, while also fostering more favorable pricing conditions.

The regional electricity exchange, ADEX Group, has completed a successful transaction that consolidates the Slovenian, Serbian, and Hungarian electricity exchanges—BSP, HUPX and SEEPEX—under one ownership.

Elektromreža Srbije, one of the founders of the ADEX Group, emphasized that this merger represents a significant step in the development of the electricity market in the region. “This positions ADEX Group as a key hub for electricity trading in Central and Eastern Europe, supporting market liquidity, integration, and efficiency, while promoting price transparency,” the company stated.

As a result of the transaction, ADEX Group now owns 100% of BSP, HUPX and SEEPEX.
