Serbian industrial production sees mixed performance compared to last year

In May, Serbia’s industrial production showed mixed results compared to the same period last year, according to the Republic Statistical Office (RZS). Overall, industrial output was 1.1 percent lower than in May 2023 and 1.9 percent lower than the average for the previous year. However, from January to May this year, industrial production increased by 2 percent compared to the same period in 2023, indicating a variable trend over the months.

The latest data revealed that the deseasonalized index for May 2024 exhibited a total industry growth of 2.7 percent compared to the previous month. Within the manufacturing sector, which saw a 2.1 percent increase, there was notable sectoral variation. Mining notably surged by 28.9 percent year-on-year in May, contrasting with a 2 percent decline in manufacturing. Meanwhile, the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning decreased by 9.1 percent during the same period, as reported by RZS.
