Serbian Minister assures no rise in electricity prices for 2024 despite market surge

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović has announced that there will be no increase in electricity prices for Serbian citizens this year, despite recent high prices on the stock market.

In an interview with Politika, Đedović Handanović noted that while electricity prices on the market have surged and Serbia has been importing electricity, this will not translate into higher household electricity costs for 2024. She also mentioned that a new methodology for calculating electricity and gas prices is expected to be implemented before November 1. This change aims to allow Elektroprivreda Srbije and Srbijagas to adapt more flexibly to market price fluctuations.

The minister highlighted that recent record electricity consumption, driven by prolonged heatwaves, has led to increased energy imports. However, she assured that these imports were not purchased at exorbitant prices and were managed within planned overhaul activities to secure the most favorable conditions.
