Serbian Unions Report Issuance of Over 50,000 Work Permits

The Serbian Independent Unions Alliance said on Wednesday that more than 50,000 work permits were issued to foreign nationals in 2023, mainly to Russians.

According to Labor Ministry data on the Alliance web site, a total of 50,397 work permits were issued between January 1 and December 20 last year – 19,645 to Russians (including 5,375 women), 10,198 to Chinese (1,071 women), 4,946 Turks (132 women), 4,914 Indians (59 women) and 1,074 Nepalese (243 women).

The Alliance said there are no official records of the jobs foreign nationals work at but added that they are assumed to be working in the construction industry, fruit and vegetable farms, health food shops and as bus drivers.
