Serbia’s draft budget for 2025 includes a groundbreaking attachment to the Green Budget, detailing 64 environmental projects set to be implemented by various ministries, including environmental protection, agriculture, construction, and energy. This marks the first time such an attachment has been included in the budget law.
The total allocated amount for these projects is 118.5 billion dinars (approximately one billion euros), with over half of this funding directed towards the development of rail infrastructure. Among the key green initiatives are six major railway projects aimed at mitigating climate change.
The largest portion of the Green Budget, 61.8 billion dinars (528.4 million euros), is dedicated to constructing and reconstructing railways and subways in Belgrade. Notable projects include the Hungarian-Serbian railway, valued at 18 billion dinars, the construction of a new railway linking Zemun Polje and the National Stadium, and the reconstruction of the Niš-Dimitrovgrad railway, which has received 13 billion dinars in funding. Other significant allocations include 10 billion dinars for waste disposal infrastructure, 7.2 billion dinars for flood defense projects, and 5 billion dinars for the Belgrade Central Sewerage System.
These initiatives underscore Serbia’s commitment to environmental sustainability while addressing crucial infrastructure needs.
