Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, stated that the desulfurization plant, completed at the Nikola Tesla A thermal power plant (TENT A) at a cost of 215 million euros, is the largest environmental project in Europe at a single thermal power plant completed at this moment, and the third in the world.
“This will reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by 30 times and particulate matter by three to five times. The plant meets all environmental standards and regulations of both our country and the European Union,” Đedović Handanović said for RTS. She added that around 70% of a similar plant at the TENT B thermal power plant has been completed.
“Next year, 90% of our thermal power plants will fully comply with EU standards,” the minister said, as reported by Beta.
According to her, there will be no increase in gas and electricity prices for households by the end of the year, while electricity will become 20% cheaper for businesses and gas around 15%.
She added that discounts will continue for the most vulnerable citizens and urged all recipients of social assistance and child allowance, as well as those receiving assistance for third-party care, to register in their municipalities and avail discounts of up to 50%.
Đedović Handanović said that 170,000 “smart” electricity meters have been installed so far, with the goal of increasing this number to 400,000 in a few months, which is the first phase. In the second phase, she said, the same number will be installed as there will be continued investment of an additional 360 million euros in the power distribution network.
