Serbia’s ICT sector soars: Exports set to reach four billion euros

Dejan Ristic, Minister of Information and Telecommunications, highlighted today that Serbia’s information and communication technology (ICT) services have experienced the highest growth rate over the past decade. He emphasized that this year, exports from the IT sector are projected to reach four billion euros. Ristic shared with RTS that the export of IT services has increased tenfold from 2012 to 2023, demonstrating the sector’s robust capacity to achieve ambitious export goals.

“We have clearly demonstrated our capability, and the results affirm this,” Ristic affirmed. “In the first five months of this year alone, exports have risen by 20% compared to the same period last year. The Ministry continues to enhance the IT sector’s environment through ongoing dialogue and fostering collaboration between scientific institutions and businesses, ensuring sustainable growth in the ICT sector.”

Ristic also addressed the issue of threats to journalists, noting a 40% decrease in harassment cases compared to last year. “This trend gives us some optimism that such improvements will continue. Professional journalists must have the right to work without hindrance, alongside the responsibility that comes with these rights,” he stressed. He mentioned the presence of 74 journalist associations and over 2,000 registered media outlets in Serbia, underscoring the importance of addressing challenges through constructive dialogue.
