Serbia’s IT job market experiences decline in job postings, yet candidate interest remains stable

The IT job market in Serbia continued to experience a decline in job listings, while the interest among candidates for positions in the sector remained steady, according to data from the HelloWorld job portal.

In 2024, the number of IT job advertisements decreased by 28%, with a total of 7,102 job postings. Throughout the year, 44,854 candidates applied for jobs through the HelloWorld platform, as reported by Infostud. This data indicates that, despite the reduced number of listings, the demand for hiring remains, and candidates are actively monitoring opportunities in the IT market.

The most frequently advertised positions were in software development, technical support, and systems administration. The most in-demand roles included programmers, IT support specialists, system administrators, full-stack developers, business software consultants, automation QA engineers, and frontend developers.

The technologies that dominated the job listings were similar to those in 2023. SQL, Cloud, JavaScript, Python, Git, Agile methodologies, Linux, and Java continued to be among the most sought-after skills.

Employers were primarily looking for mid-level programmers, with 57% of the job ads targeting this group, while 26% of the openings were for senior roles. Junior positions had the highest competition, as only 17% of the listings were open to beginners.

The “work from home” option was mentioned in 19% of the job listings, which is a slight decline compared to the previous year when this option appeared in 21% of the ads.
